American Idol star Paris Bennett will perform at Play Play Dance Bar, 1519 Church Street, on Friday, Dec. 21, at midnight.
Doors open at 9:00 p.m. with Play Mate shows in the show bar at 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. DJ Lenny B will be spinning in the dance bar starting at 10:00 p.m. and will continue after Bennett’s performance. Admission is $12. All Play guests must be at least 18 years old and have proper identification to enter.
Born into a musical family, Bennett is the granddaughter of R&B singer Ann Nesby. She began her singing career at age four, performing at her great grandfather’s church (Macedonia Baptist Church) in Fayetteville, Georgia.
From there Bennett went on to local talent shows before securing her first big performance: singing the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-penned song “Welcome” during the TK Olympics in Atlanta.
Bennett’s career changed course when American Idol moved one of its audition sites to nearby Greensboro, North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Winning the audition, she advanced to Hollywood where she placed fifth in season five.
Play Dance Bar has been named “Nashville’s Best Place to Dance” by the Nashville Scene, NashvilleCitySearch.com, and Out & About Newspaper since it opened in 2005.
