Outright Libertarians start Nashville Chapter

Aug 5, 2008 RSS

Nashville is now home to its own chapter of Outright USA Libertarians. The group announced yesterday that the new chapter exists to present libertarianism, the Libertarian Party and its candidates to the GLBT community in and around Nashville.

According to a release from the group, the Libertarian Party has included sexual rights, including equal marriage and adoption, equal military service and the end of sodomy laws, since its first national platform in 1972. Unlike the Stonewall Democrats and Log Cabin Republicans, Outright Libertarians have broad based support in the our party and need not fight for basic recognition of our equal status in society.

The Libertarian Party is America’s third largest and fastest growing political party. Libertarians engage in a variety of projects, working for every person's liberty on every issue.

The problem with voting Libertarian is that you think no one else is going to and that makes your vote wasted. WRONG! When you vote for a Democrat that talks nice to GLBTQ people then does nothing but work against us after we vote them into office (but, they are secretly our friend) THAT'S A WASTED VOTE! If more people would vote only for candidates that are OPENLY pro-gay, eventually there would be more pro-gay politicians. And, some of them would probably be Libertarian.

Libertarians have influence where they can get elected. Right now three Libertarians are serving in elected office in Tennessee, that is more than any other third party can claim. The way the Libertarian Party will grow in influence is by gaining support. Outright Libertarians do an excellent job at promoting the message of Liberty. For the last two years, I have found our out reach booth at Nashville Pride to e very well received. Outright Libertarians are part of a much bigger move towards liberty within Davidson County and Tennessee. This move is being led by the Libertarian Party of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County www.lpmmndc.org and the Libertarian Party of Tennessee www.lptn.org. Daniel Lewis is the Libertarians Party's candidate for U.S. Senate from Tennessee www.getyourcountryback.com Supporting this candidate is a chance to bring the type of influence that is needed in Washington D.C. to Washington D.C. The Republicans and Democrats will not change how they do things nor will they work to reduce the size of government and increase liberty, only the Libertarian party can and will do that.

Libertarians are too anti-BIG government pro-personal responsibility, to be pro-Democrat and anti-Republican. Libertarians are pro-freedon, and pro-chice on everything. I think that makes us "anti-Rebublican" and "anti- Democrat" I do not understand the need to slam a party that simply wants to give the people of Tennessee another choice. Democrats and Republicans together have given us DADT and DOMA, yet they want GLBT people to vote for them and send them money. Since when is choice a bad thing? I know voting for someone with a (L) after their names seems a little odd to us, but voting Libertarian only feels kinky the frist time. ;-) www.outrightnashville.com

Libertarians are too pro-Democrat, too anti-Republican for an "objective" party. And Libertarians are pretty much powerless eunuchs in the political world. Alot of noise now and then does not translate into victories on the US House and Senate floor where it's desperately needed.
