More than 1,500 people participated in Nashville's annual AIDS Walk on Oct. 4 and more than $186,000 was raised benefiting Nashville CARES in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

About 4,000 people donated gifts from $1 to $1,501, 30 sponsors provided cash support or in-kind donations and 30 groups participated in the Health and Wellness Fair held in Bicentennial State Park.

The money raised through the event is used by CARES for HIV prevention education and support services for individuals and families living with HIV throughout middle Tennessee.

Nashville CARES is a community-based AIDS service organization that promotes and participates in a comprehensive and compassionate response to HIV and AIDS through education, advocacy and supportive services. The doors of CARES are open to anyone affected by HIV and AIDS in need of comfort.
