In the days after California banned same-sex marriage with the passing of the controversial Proposition 8, tens of thousands of GLBT people and their supports took to the streets in outrage, disbelief and sadness.

Similar amendments and propositions have been passed in Arizona and Florida.

Soon, peaceful protesters converged in other cities, including Chicago and Salt Lake City, Utah, toting signs that read "No More Mr. Nice Gay - Equal rights for all people," and "I am now a 2nd class citizen," among many others.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, the GLBT community and its allies will again take to the streets in what could be the largest organized movement since the Civil Rights Movement. More than 250,000 individuals have already pledged to take part in the nationwide event in which they will descend upon the city halls, state capitols and the nation’s capitol to demand equality.

The Protest / Movement is scheduled to take place across the nation at 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time.

In Tennessee, peaceful protesters are invited to join forces in three locations across the state: in Nashville at 100 Metro Courthouse, at 12:30 p.m.; in Knoxville at World's Fair Park lawn, at 1:30 p.m.; and in Memphis at 125 N Main St. #514, at 12:30 p.m.

Visit jointheimpact.wetpaint.com for protest spots nationwide or for more information.

The organizers of this nationwide event have stressed that it, like the protests that have taken place during the past week, will also be peaceful demonstrations.
