Looking to improve muscle tone, posture, core strength and flexibility? Ta-Dah! Dance in Donelson Plaza is hosting a Pilates Summer Boot Camp to do just that.
The gay-friendly dance studio will offer progressive pilates movements coupled with cardio-conditioning specifically designed to improve posture, core strength, flexibility and cardiovascular wellness while training the body to burn fat.
Classes will be held June 15 through July 31. During the seven-week program, pilates participants will have the option of one full week of classes plus six Fridays for $180 or two full weeks of classes plus five Fridays for $270. Mention Out & About Newspaper when you sign up and Ta-Dah will wave the $20 application fee.
Certified pilates instructor Megan Hall will lead participants through three phases of boot camp.
Phase one will include mat class plus cardio conditioning. Phase two will incorporate pilates apparatus, including pilates rings and stability balls, with cardio conditioning. Phase three will combine phases one and two, bringing together core-stabilizing mat class and apparatus with fat-burning cardio conditioning.
Hall said pilates improves strength, flexibility and balance while toning muscles without bulking them up. With small, focused movements, pilates exercise challenges deep abdominal muscles to support the core and engages the mind to enhance body awareness, she said.
Other benefits of pilates include a reduction in stress and tension, improved posture and circulation and enhanced mobility.
Don't fear the Boot Camp's macho title. Hall said pilates is an ideal exercise for people who shy away from other forms of exercise because of joint pain or muscle weakness.
