Restaurateur Terry Carr-Hall and Brent Polk, a physician and researcher at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, are preparing to move to southern California. But, the men say not to worry about changes at Provence.
Effective April 1, 2010, Polk will become chair of Pediatrics and vice dean for Academic Affairs at Children's Hospital Los Angeles at University of Southern California, physician-in-chief and vice-president of Children's Hospital Los Angeles and director of the Saban Research Institute.
Polk is a prominent pediatrician who served for a time as interim medical director at the highly ranked Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
“This is an unprecedented opportunity to work to bring together three institutions that have tremendous strengths and challenges,” Polk said. “The hard part is leaving our friends and colleagues at Vanderbilt and in Nashville. Terry [Carr-Hall] and I came here almost 20 years ago and were given tremendous opportunities. It is because Vanderbilt has provided so many wonderful experiences that this new opportunity is possible.”
The men plan to keep a foothold in Nashville with Carr-Hall commuting between Nashville and Los Angeles and keeping up with Provence on the web.
They said the cafe has fared well in recent months and even set record October sales last month. They said they have no thought of selling or closing Provence and are even considering opening a sister store on the West Coast.
