I thought this story insightful as I have advocated that the LGBT community cannot be successfully accepted into society until we are willing to stand up and be counted. While the number of same-sex couples in the nation are now being given officially recognized status, it seems to me that the number of LGBT persons as a whole (married or not); is really what we need to be focusing on in order to achieve the equality we speak so highly of. This being said, I would challenge the community and the nation to respectively: stand up and be counted; and to recognize the number of LGBT persons that are lacking the same basic civil rights and safety of citizenship afforded heterosexual members of our society.
