The Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s 23rd annual Shakespeare in Centennial Park will begin on Aug. 19.

This year’s production is “Love’s Labor’s Lost,” and will be set in the late 19th century to give a Victorian twist to the story. In keeping with the “birds and bees” theme of the work, the performers have studied the courtship rituals and will incorporate the bobbing, strutting and fluttering of birds into their performances.

The show features original music by Tom McBryde, with the violinist also playing the role of Cupid, and is directed by Denice Hicks with costumes by June Kingsbury and set design by Erica Edmonson.

Performances will run Thursdays through Sundays, and also on Labor Day, at the Centennial Park band shell. Pre-show entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m., with the show following at 7:30 p.m. The production ends on Sept. 12.

A sign-interpreted performance is set for Aug. 21. Admission is free to the general public, with food and drink available for purchase on-site.
